Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the U.S. She's been an editor since the year 1995. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site which features video and posts analyzing the portrayals of females in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the author and director of executive for Feminist Frequency which is an education not-for-profit site that examines the representation of women in pop media narratives. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the main goals of her work. But, she also discusses issues of specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities which are marginalized. Holding a master's degree in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public presenter and has presented speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as at The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She has been interested in gender issues and feminism at a early age. When she graduated in 2009, in university she started the Feminist Frequency web site. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s with a dream to develop a series of web videos that would examine gender representations in games. However, she became victimized by online harassment. The attack wasn't enough to stop her. It actually strengthened her commitment to be a feminist as well as media critique. Her numerous contributions to the field of feminist were recognized by a variety of prizes. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media journalist. She also serves as the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores pop culture gender representations.
