In the beginning, she was a student at Guildford High School and then Cranleigh School. There, her initial lead performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady were noticed. After a single year at art school, she was transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, where she graduated in 1988. Ormond made her debut appearance on British television's 1989 serial Traffik. It focused on illegal heroin trade between the far East and the streets of Europe.
